Tom Hollander and Niamh Algar are set to star in a new Sky Original thriller Iris, written and created by Neil Cross, the mastermind behind the acclaimed Golden Globe Award-winning series Luther. The final guests for Season 49 of Saturday Night Live have been announced as Maya Rudolph and Jake Gyllenhall. Maya Rudolph will host “SNL” for the third time on May 11. The five-time Emmy Award winner currently stars in and executive produces the second season of Loot. Jake Gyllenhaal will host the May 18 season finale, returning as host for the third time. He makes his series debut as star and executive producer of “Presumed Innocent,” premiering June 12 on Apple TV+. 

Deadline has reported that Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas will appear in a new musical comedy from John Carney, director of Once and Sing Street. The film, titled Power Ballad, is said to tell 'the story of a wedding singer (Rudd), a rock star (Jonas), and the song that comes between them.' The musical, which is currently filming in Dublin, will hit the Cannes market this month.

According to reportsm Anthony Hopkins will be taking on another real-life figure by playing composer George Frideric Handel in a new biopic from Andrew Levitas, director of Minimata. The script for the film, titled The King of Covent Garden, was written by playwright and professor Tim Slover and centers on Handel while he creates his 1741 masterpiece, Messiah.

Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons will be starring together in a comedy from Simon Curtis, the director of My Week With Marilyn and Downton Abbey: A New Era. The forthcoming comedy will center on Nigel (Irons) and Marie (Close), playing former Broadway veterans who are now living in a retirement community. When they discover the hidden talents of their fellow residents, they decide to put on a show starring Nigel and produced by Marie.

Netflix has released the full-length trailer for Eric, a new limited series from Abi Morgan. The series, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Gaby Hoffmann and McKinley Belcher III will be arriving on Netflix on May 30th, 2024. Set in 1980s New York, Eric is a new emotional thriller from Abi Morgan following the desperate search of a father when his nine-year-old son disappears one morning on the way to school. According to reports, actress Meryl Streep will be receiving the Honorary Palme d’Or award at the opening ceremony of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Streep has starred in numerous films throughout her career and has the distinction of being the most nominated person in the acting categories at the Academy Awards. Some of her musical roles include Mamma Mia! and its sequel, Into the Woods, and Mary Poppins Returns.

The Peabody Awards Board of Jurors has announced that Mel Brooks, legendary comedian and writer of The Producers, will be receiving a special honor at the 84th annual Peabody Awards. Additionally, Quinta Brunson, the award-winning writer, producer, actor, and comedian, has been honored with the Peabody Trailblazer Award. On June 9 in Los Angeles, they will both receive the awards at the annual ceremony which honors excellence in television, podcast/radio, and immersive and interactive media.
