Five By Design's CLUB SWING and More Set for Fox Cities' Boldt Arts Alive! Series, Beg. 10/4

The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center's October lineup dazzles audiences of all ages with a Boldt Arts Alive! Series that includes world-famous performers, timeless music and the local talent of some of the Fox Cities most promising high school choirs. Five By Design's Club Swing launches the 2012/13 Boldt Arts Alive! Series on Tuesday, October 4 with a nostalgic journey back to the Big Band Era. Later in the month, tap dancing sensation Savion Glover pays homage to legends like Gregory Hines, Jimmy Slyde and Sammy Davis Jr. with his latest piece SoLe Sanctuary on Tuesday, October 23, and comedian Bill Cosby returns to the Fox Cities P.A.C. on Saturday, October 27. Closing out the month, the Ninth AnnuAl Fox Cities Choral Music Festival welcomes more than 100 local students to the stage on Tuesday, October 30. For a full listing of October events, visit foxcitiespac.com.

Five By Design's Club Swing relives the rise and fall of the Big Band Era on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. as doors close on the fictional Hotel Crosby, inspired by legendary venues like The Stork Club, The Copa and The Cocoanut Grove. But even as the lights go down, music like "In the Mood," "Cocktails for Two," "Mona Lisa" and the unforgettable "Sing, Sing, Sing" will live on forever. Hailing from Minnesota, Five By Design embraces the unforgettable melodies, lush harmonies, and swinging rhythms that make this music timeless. Most of the five member troupe has been singing together for more than 25 years and includes Lorie Carpenter-Niska, Catherine Scott, Kurt Niska, Michael Swedberg and Terrence Niska. Five By Design enjoys the great fortune of working with outstanding orchestrators including several local ties to Lovell Ives, Professor Emeritus of Jazz Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and local composer and orchestrator, Maury Laws. Tickets for Five By Design's Club Swing start at $20.

Ticket holders are invited to the Kimberly-Clark Theater before Five By Design's Club Swing to hear from Five By Design's founder, Alton Accola. Learn about the history of the vocal ensemble and bring your questions for a Q&A session. This event is free for Five By Design's Club Swing ticket holders. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 6:45 p.m.

On Tuesday, October 23 at 7:30 p.m., rhythm and dance fans will be amazed and inspired by Tony® Award-winning, hoofer, choreographer, producer and tap master Savion Glover as he performs his latest piece, SoLe Sanctuary. Described by The New York Times as, "full of the kind of rhythmic innovation that trips down one path, splinters off in different directions and then sweeps back home" and "a deeper exploration of the idea of a dancer as an instrument," SoLe Sanctuary is Glover's stirring tribute to his teachers which include legendary dancers like Gregory Hines, Jimmy Slyde and Sammy Davis Jr. Glover's numerous credits include the Broadway shows The Tap Dance Kid; Black and Blue, Jelly's Last Jam and Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk. He has also been featured in the films "Tap" with Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr., "Bamboozled" by Spike Lee and "Happy Feet," an Academy Award winner choreographed by Glover. Tickets for Savion Glover's SoLe Sanctuary are $28.

On Saturday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m., comedian Bill Cosby returns to the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center as part of the Center's 10th Anniversary Season. For more than 40 years, Cosby has been a household name made famous by hit shows like "I Spy," "Fat Albert" and "The Cosby Show," not to mention his best-selling book, "Fatherhood" and countless albums. In recent years, Cosby's comedic genius has been recognized by Kennedy Center Honors, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and yet, he still finds humor in everyday life and shares it with audiences nationwide. Tickets for Bill Cosby start at $47.50.
